Our Beginning

Axiom-1596.jpg

Hello, my name is Jacob Lee. I am the founder, builder, and tuner of Axiom Handpans. I started Axiom in 2013 after a profound experience with one of these Sound Sculptures. A guitarist of many years, I had felt that something was missing in the music I was playing. I just couldn’t get to what I was feeling inside and found myself loosing interest in music altogether.

Then I played a Handpan. The experience was magic. All the notes supported each other and it was impossible to play something “wrong”. My mind, which so often can be busy planning and thinking about the music, let go and I felt free. I was finally able to easily express what I was feeling inside. It simply flowed. The delicacy and beauty of the sound highlighted and underlined the potency of these feelings and led me deeper still to uncharted waters. After that moment I knew I had to learn to build one and could not stop until I did.

I am tremendously grateful for this instrument, this artform, and the global community. They have transformed my life. Special thanks to my wife Ali, my children, Elydan, Emmit, and Asa, my brother Josh, to Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer original creators of the Panart Hang, Peter Levitov, Kevin Patterson, Mike Cooper, Alan Bauer, Logan Needham, David Beery, Kyle Cox, Colin Foulke, Sean Beever. Axiom would not be what it is today without all of your help.
